November always brings us back to gratitude. We think about the people we love, the opportunities we’ve had, and the things that have gone right.
But lately, I’ve been thinking about gratitude a little differently.
Not just being thankful for what we have, but for the people who helped us get here. And perhaps even more importantly, the people who helped us become who we are.
Recently, my son was recognized as Employee of the Month at his job. It was an incredibly proud moment for me. As a mother, I’ve watched him navigate challenges, work hard, and continue finding his place in the world. Seeing his efforts acknowledged reminded me that success doesn’t always look the way we originally imagined.
Sometimes it looks even better, because we understand everything it took to get there.
It also reminded me how important it is to have people in our lives who see our potential, believe in our abilities, and give us opportunities to grow.
And isn’t that something we all need?
Someone who believes in us before we fully believe in ourselves. Someone who opens a door, offers encouragement, or simply reminds us of what we’re capable of.
I’ve been fortunate to have people like that throughout my life. People who challenged me to think bigger, encouraged me to take risks, and sometimes saw strengths in me that I hadn’t yet recognized.
Looking back, I realize that some of the most important turning points in my life weren’t necessarily the result of a carefully constructed plan. They came from a conversation, an unexpected opportunity, or someone willing to take a chance on me.
And I’ve learned that one of the greatest gifts we can give someone else is to be that person for them.
Whether we’re building a career, raising a family, starting over, or simply navigating the unexpected turns of life, we don’t do it alone.
And sometimes, the most meaningful way to express gratitude is to pay it forward.
It’s easy to get caught up in what’s next. The next goal, the next achievement, the next chapter. I know I’m guilty of that myself.
But perhaps this season is also an invitation to recognize how far we’ve come, appreciate those who walked beside us, and remember that our own experiences can become a source of encouragement for someone else.
So this November, I have a little challenge for you.
Think about one person who made a difference in your journey. Maybe they encouraged you, challenged you, took a chance on you, or helped you see something in yourself you hadn’t recognized.
Reach out. Tell them.
And then ask yourself: Whose next chapter could I help shape?
Because gratitude isn’t just about looking back and appreciating how far we’ve come.
It’s also about looking forward and recognizing what we can make possible for someone else.
Wishing you and those you love a month filled with Gratitude and Happy moments!
