What happens when you stop waiting?

There are things we know we want to do long before we actually do them.

Start something. Change something. Say something. Leave something behind. Put ourselves out there in a new way.

And yet, we wait.

We wait until we feel ready. Until we know more. Until the timing is better. Until someone gives us permission. Until we’re certain it’s going to work.

But lately I’ve been thinking:

What if ready isn’t a feeling? What if ready is a decision? Over the past several months, I’ve written about change from a lot of different angles. The moment your story changes. How you live affects how you lead. Leading with clarity. Visibility creates opportunity. They may sound like different conversations, but I’m realizing they’re really pieces of the same one. Our stories change. We get clearer about who we are and what matters. We begin to see where we want to go. And then comes the uncomfortable part. We have to move… The Space Between Knowing and Doing

I think this is where a lot of us get stuck. We know… We know the conversation we need to have. We know the idea we want to pursue. We know the change we’ve been considering. We know there’s something more we want to create, contribute or experience.

But knowing and doing are two very different things.

Sometimes we tell ourselves we need more clarity when what we really need is courage. Not huge, dramatic courage. The kind that says, I’m going to take the next step even though I can’t see the entire staircase yet. That’s where I am right now, too.

I Finally Stopped Waiting…

For a long time, I’ve wanted to create a space where I could have deeper conversations with interesting people.

Not just about what they’ve accomplished, but about how they think. What shaped them? What changed them? What do they see that other people might miss? What do they do differently? So… I stopped thinking about it and started creating it.

On October 8th , I’m launching my new video podcast:
A Different Angle with Amy King

I’ve already recorded the first conversations, and creating this show has reminded me of something I think we all need to remember… You don’t have to know exactly where something will lead before you begin. Sometimes you start because something keeps pulling at you.

You follow the pattern. You trust what you’ve learned. You bring together the pieces of your story that suddenly make sense in a new way. And you take the next step. Then another. And another. That’s how a next chapter actually begins.

So this month, I want to leave you with this:

What would you start if you stopped waiting to feel completely ready?

Maybe it’s professional. Maybe it’s personal. Maybe it’s something you’ve been quietly thinking about for years. You don’t have to make the entire change today. But you can make the call. Write the first page. Have the conversation. Raise your hand. Record the video. Send the email. Take the meeting. Do one thing that tells yourself: I’ve started.

Because sometimes the biggest shift isn’t what happens after we take the leap.

It’s who we become when we finally decide to take it.

Here’s to your next chapter.

Find the pattern. Find your fire. Keep moving forward.

P.S. A Different Angle with Amy King launches October 8th. I can’t wait to share these conversations, and a few different angles, with you.
